Virtual Environments

VMware ESXi

VMware ESXi is a proprietary bare-metal (type 1) hypervisor which installs directly onto a computer to provide an environment for creating multiple virtual machines on a single physical host.

We use ESXi for all our servers and most of our development, test and infrastructure machines. We are also experts in VMware type 2 hypervisors such as VMware Fusion and Workstation.

Proxmox VE

Proxmox VE is an open-source, bare-metal hypervisor which supports virtual machine creation, Linux containers and clustering, with more modest hardware requirements than VMware ESXi.

To date, we have used Proxmox VE for test machines and clusters and have been very impressed with its ease-of-use, reliability and configurability.
